Atayne 360 - December 2008

More Meaning and Less Impact

It is easy to get caught up in the commercialization of the holidays. Regardless of the holiday we personally celebrate, we often find ourselves at the turn of the year with a lot less money. There is no doubt giving (and receiving) gifts is fun, but we think everyone can agree that there is more to the holidays. This year, we challenge you all to do at least one thing to make for a more meaningful and less environmentally impactful season. We've put a few of our ideas throughout the newsletter, but we hope you get creative and think of some of your own. Share your ideas with us by emailing One person will be randomly selected to win an Atayne short sleeve top.

Monthly Enviro Tip

The holidays can often turn into a sedentary time. Top that off with all the food and drink, and the extra pounds can easily creep up on you. Instead of driving through your neighborhood to check out all the holiday lights and decorations, bundle up, and run, walk, or bike the route. Not only you will get in a much needed holiday workout, you will avoid the emissions from the drive.

"You Serious, Clark?"

atayne long sleeve topGood old cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation. We are not sure if Clark Griswold was serious, but we are serious about a couple things. On average, 16 million pounds of wrapping paper and 2 billions cards are thrown away each holiday season and...LONG SLEEVE TOPS ARE IN.

In our minds, there is not a better gift this holiday season than an Atayne top (long sleeve or short sleeve) or gift certificate. And there is not a better way to give it than to buy a reusable shopping bag and use it in place of wrapping paper or a gift bag. Not only will you reduce waste during the holidays, the recipient can reduce plastic bag waste all year long.

All Christmas orders for shipment to U.S. addresses must be received by December 17th to ensure Santa can deliver them on time.

Pay It Forward

At Camp Atayne, we have been thinking for the last few weeks about what to do around the holidays. Free Shipping? Buy 1 get 1 free? 20% Discount? We are sure these ideas all sound great to our friends, especially in the current economic environment, but we wanted to do more. And we think you expect more. So in lieu of the standard holiday promotion, we have decided to pay it forward.

We have selected a few organizations we think are doing great things, and have decided to donate 10% of our holiday sales to them. Even better, we will let you decide where the donation from your purchase goes. Joining in the fun is easy. Check out our partner organizations below, pick the one you would like to support, and use their code at checkout.

Maine Children's Cancer Program
maine childrens cancer program.jpgTo continue honoring last month's profiled athlete (Stephen Wells), we have selected the Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP). The MCCP, offers outpatient consultation and treatment of children diagnosed with cancer and blood disorders. The program participates in the national Children's Oncology Group (COG) Clinical Trials, and employs an on-site research team that manages the program's participation in the trials. To support this cause, put the code livestrongmaine in the Promotional/Coupon Code field at checkout and press apply.

Run For One Planet
run for one planetWe introduced Matt and Stephanie of Run for One Planet in our last newsletter. For all you new readers, Matt and Stephanie are running across North America to educate people on environmental issues, and encourage people to take positive environmental steps in their lives. Once they are done with their epic run, Matt and Stephanie are setting up a Legacy of Action. The legacy will provide seed capital for eco-system enhancement initiatives around North America. The focus will be on local environmental initiatives, programs, groups and projects that are creating change on the local, grassroots level. To support this cause, put the code runforoneplanet in the Promotional/Coupon Code field at checkout and press apply.

Back on My Feet
back on my feetBack on My Feet is a non-profit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of Philadelphia's homeless population by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. Back on My Feet does not provide food nor does it provide shelter, but instead provides a community that embraces equality, respect, discipline, teamwork and leadership. Living in a Material World?

It was back in 1984 when Madonna proclaimed that "we are living in a material world." A lot has changed since then, the "material girl" herself recently said, "(People) are going to go to hell if they don't turn from Wicked behavior... The material world... the physical world. The world of illusion that we think is real. We live for it; we're enslaved by it. It will ultimately be our undoing." A bit overboard, but I think everyone gets the point; material possessions do not pave the road to happiness.

citizen effectWhile we think an Atayne long sleeve or short sleeve top is the perfect holiday gift, not everyone needs a new performance top. We encourage to you to think differently this year. Ask your friends and family to give the gift of clean water, renewable energy, food security, or education to a high-need community in your name. Sound interesting? Check out our friends at Citizen Effect to see how you can make a lasting impact this holiday season.

Where in the World is Atayne?

bryon powell.jpgIs that Yosemite Sam? No, it's Bryon P. in Yosemite National Park. Bryon sported his Atayne top on a recent running trip through the mountains of Yosemite. While his red hair may resemble Yosemite Sam, his running style is much more like the Road Runner. Bryon is an avid ultra-runner and writes the well-known blog, I Run Far.

Bryon's recent running adventure gave us an idea for the best eco-active gift out there. Pair an Atayne top with a National Parks Annual Pass. By supporting the National Park Service not only do you give someone the opportunity to see America's greatest natural treasures, you help to support the preservation and enhancement of close-to-home recreational areas.

A Glimpse into the Future

For all our friends in the SoCal area, be sure to come visit us at the Eco Gift Festival December 12, 13, and 14.

Next month we will gave the loyal readers of Atayne 360 a sneak peak at the Spring 2009 designs.

Until Next Month, Keep it Clean,

The Atayners
